Welsh
farmers face needless pressure because of bureaucratic burdens,
Welsh Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Mick Bates AM warned
today.
Mick said: “Reducing red tape for farmers saves civil servant’s
time, taxpayers money, not to mention reduces the administration
burden on farmers.
“Farmers in Wales can be subject to a beef inspection, which looks
at movement records, medicine records and eartags – then face the
same checks, two weeks later, by the same inspector under the
heading of a dairy inspection.
“Let’s free up our farming industry. I don’t want to compromise
safety, just provide better quality inspections, that don’t overlap
in their aims, and make it easier for farmers to manage
bureaucracy.”

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Amendment below aims to reduce overlap in
farming inspections:
Amendment 2 - Kirsty Williams (Brecon and Radnorshire)
Add as new point at end of motion:
"Calls on the Welsh Assembly Government to reduce red tape and
bureaucracy by moving towards unified on-farm inspection audits.”
