Welsh
Liberal Democrat spokesperson for the Environment, Mick Bates,
continues his campaign to raise awareness of the need to act now on
climate change as he speaks at an Energy Saving Trust reception at
the Senedd today.

The Energy Saving Trust is launching its new Energy Saving Trust
Advice Centres across Wales. The advice centres, based in Newport,
Pembrokeshire and Mold, will offer householders, community groups
and small businesses advice on renewable energy, low carbon
transport options and energy efficiency. It is hoped that the
enhanced advice centre service will enable the Energy Saving Trust
to reach more than 200,000 customers in Wales in 2008-9.
Mick Bates AM comments: “Behavioural change lies at the heart of the
battle against climate change and we must do everything we can to
live a sustainable lifestyle and reduce our eco-logical footprint.
Individual action will be the key driver in moving towards a low
carbon society in Wales.
“The Government will not drive down energy bills so the work of the
Energy Saving Trust is vital to help raise awareness of climate
change, through advising people on how to save energy, reduce their
bills and work towards reaching our carbon emission targets in
Wales.
“Being more sustainable in our daily behaviour can have a huge
impact, from installing energy saving light bulbs and switching off
appliances that are not being used, to installing microgeneration
technologies so that people can produce their own energy at home.
“Recent figures have shown Wales is around the 12th highest emitter
per capita in the world and a quarter of our carbon emissions are
due to energy use in the home. Clearly there is so much work ahead
for Wales if we are to make our contribution to tackling climate
change and move towards a low carbon future.”
