CALLING NOTICE:

Mick Bates – Checks out Welshpool Station
Monday 29th October 2007, 10.30am Platform 1, Welshpool Railway Station

Release/Rhyddhau: 29/10/07

Contact/Cyswllt: Sue Callery
01686 625527

Mick Bates AM has become so concerned that many constituents are unhappy with the provision at Welshpool Station that he is visiting again with County Council Member Francesca Jump and regular rail user Angus Eickoff with a view to highlighting the need for improvements as a matter of urgency.

Mick says the meeting is an important opportunity to express concern over the poor facilities in Welshpool. "Senior managers must accept responsibility for the short comings on the platform at Welshpool and take urgent action before the winter sets in to resolve the problems. It isn’t good enough that passenger information is not available, it isn’t good enough that passengers cannot take cover from the elements and it certainly isn’t good enough that there is no toilet!”

Cllr Jump says that “I have been in this job just a few weeks but in that time I have been made aware that the station is not fit for purpose. Fare paying passengers from Welshpool deserve some basic amenities on the platform. The wind whips across the platform and you can’t even visit the toilet whilst waiting fro a train!”

“I wrote to Arriva Trains last March asking them to address the problems here – I haven’t heard that action has been taken so I am going to have another look” added Mick.

Press are welcome to attend and there is a photo opportunity at High Street, Welshpool 10.30 Monday 29 October 2007.
