Mick Bates AM, Liberal Democrat for Montgomeryshire, today called on
Rhodri Glyn Thomas, Minister for Heritage, to use Welsh Assembly
Government money and support the proposals put forward by the Owain
Glyn Dwr Centre in Machynlleth.
Mick commented on the plans that have been drawn up to create a more
modern exhibition to commemorate the life and significance of Owain
Glyn Dwr:
“A dedicated group of enthusiasts have worked hard to keep the Owain
Glyn Dwr Centre alive. They are formulating ambitious plans to
create a more modern centre to celebrate the life of possibly the
greatest ever Welsh person.
“I am pleased that the Minister for Heritage has accepted my invite
to visit Machynlleth and meet members of the community who are
developing plans to create a more fitting facility in honour of
Owain Glyn Dwr and the first ever Welsh Parliament in 1404.
“I urge the Plaid-Labour Government to show more financial support
for these shining memorials that commemorate such important times in
our Welsh history and pay tribute to our vibrant Welsh people,
cultures and traditions.
“We need more support for these sites which are so vital in Wales
both from a heritage point of view, as well as to increase economic
activity and regenerate our communities across rural Wales.”
