Following the Liberal Democrat leadership hustings held last night in Cardiff, Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has voiced his praise and respect for both worthy candidates but has revealed that his support will lie with MP Chris Huhne in the two-man contest for leader of the Liberal Democrats.

“It is great to see two incredibly strong candidates in the running for leader of the Liberal Democrats. This is extremely positive for the party as whichever candidate is chosen by our members, we are guaranteed to be in safe hands.

“I was immensely impressed by both candidates last night and I look forward to a new era for the Liberal Democrats with a leader who is dedicated, capable, committed to upholding our party values and who will work hard to make our policies become reality.

“This has been a hugely difficult decision but after much thought and consideration my support lies with Chris Huhne who I believe has the vision, knowledge and dedication to lead our party into the future.”
