Commenting on the
report published by the Energy Savings Trust suggesting that the UK
wastes the most Energy in Europe, Welsh Liberal Democrat Environment
spokesperson, Mick Bates said:
“It’s a shame that the UK is
bottom of the pile when it comes to energy efficiency. We need to take
urgent action to get us to the top.
“The
Tyndal Centre, the UK’s leading body for climate change research,
proposes that it is possible to cut carbon emissions in the home by 60%.
Simple steps such as using energy saving light bulbs, correct insulation
and installing smart meters can make a huge difference.
“The
Energy Savings Trust’s report highlights a problem that I have been
talking about for years. We must reduce the energy we waste. Not only
will that be good for the environment it will save money. The battle
against climate change starts at the home. If we can save a few quid
while doing it even better!
“We have
between 10 and 15 years to do something about climate change. Let’s not
waste that time. Let’s start by reducing the energy we waste.”
