Montgomeryshire
farmer and AM, Mick Bates, has slammed the Labour Assembly Government
for refusing to debate the withdrawal of Tir Mynydd Payments.
During This week’s business
debate, the Labour Government refused to discuss the future of the
scheme in public, choosing instead to communicate updates through
written statements.
Commenting
Mick said: “The withdrawal of Tir Mynydd payments is move that will
affect thousands of farmers across Wales. The very fact that the Labour
Government refuses to even discuss it demonstrates their blatant
disregard for the people of rural Wales.
“In recent
months I’ve had loads of phone calls from farmers worried about the
future of their business. It’s simply not acceptable that they are
denied the right to hear why Tir Mynydd is being cut and why people like
me want to reverse that cut.
“The
Labour Assembly Government need to get their act together, listen to the
concerns of Farmers and allow this issue to be discussed. The future of
rural Wales is at stake. The Minister is deaf to the pleas of farmers
and family business – will he listen to anyone?”
