Mick Bates has urged the Minister for Health and Social
Services, Brian Gibbons to do all in his power to make better use of
community hospitals.
The Welsh Liberal Democrat AM made his call in an exchange in the
Assembly today.
Mick said: “We have 4 community hospitals in Montgomeryshire. All
play a vital role in the area they serve. I recently visited the
hospital in Machynlleth, where staff were concerned about a number
of issues, not least the lack of co-ordination between health and
social care management.
“It is in a similar position to community hospitals all over the
country. They are only half full and have their hands tied over the
services they can offer. The Minister must do all in his power to
allow the hospitals to make better use of their resources. For
example by providing nursing care for the elderly they will strength
their role in the local community.”
