Tetra masts must not be built without full consultation with local
communities, says Mick Bates.
The Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Montgomeryshire used a debate in
the Assembly this week to present a petition of 750 names against
the proposed construction of a tetra mast in Llanidloes.
Mick said: “An application to build a tetra mast in Llanidloes has
been submitted. However, the interested company, MM02, has not
carried out any public consultation. They have not even discussed
the matter with the local community council.
“In any planning matter, the local community must be consulted.
Tetra masts are highly contentious, and the need for good
communication with the public is essential.
Mick gained an assurance from the Minister responsible, Carwyn
Jones, that he would examine the issue further.
Mick added: “I am pleased that the Minister has made this pledge.
This is an important issue that will affect hundreds of lives.
It goes beyond political party lines. We must work together to find
a solution to the problem.”
